About our school

Fennell Bay Public School has an enrolment of 170 students. There are six mainstream classes on the school entitlement, with a seventh class teacher funded through the FASTstream program, until the end of 2025. The school has four support classes, an IM class for students with mild intellectual disabilities and three multicategorical classes, with a total enrolment capacity of 39. Student numbers are expected to increase with planning underway for a new subdivision zoned for the school. The school executive includes three Assistant Principals and two AP Curriculum and Instruction. There is a cross section of early career and experienced teachers and opportunities are provided for aspiring leaders.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) has been successfully implemented and has evolved within the school with positive outcomes for students, staff and community. Narunbah Schools as Community Centre (SaCC) has operated for over 18 years. The primary focus of the SaCC is to enhance the early development outcomes of children birth to 8 years through the various programs provided. These include supported playgroups, baby specific groups, transition to school as well as parenting programs.

The school has a strong, proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice that has been facilitated through connections with community and families, the Aboriginal Education Officer and Aboriginal staff, which includes a teacher and two SLSOs. Elders and Aboriginal knowledge holders are welcomed as teachers and allies. The school aspires to the authentic and respectful inclusion of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander perspectives across all aspects of teaching, learning and the school environment. The inclusion of families and community is integral to the school's success. The Learning and Support Team has a clear, robust role and procedure statement to support student and teacher learning and wellbeing.  A tiered approach to support ensures all students are provided with intervention and extension at the point of need.

In response to findings from the situational analysis the learning domain of Curriculum will feature in the school improvement plan, with a focus on the themes teaching and learning programs, differentiation and literacy and numeracy. This will feature in strategic direction 1 'student growth and attainment'. The domain of Educational Leadership has also been selected, with a particular focus on innovation and local partnerships. The leadership team will strengthen a strong professional learning community with a sustained focus on evidence-informed teaching, wellbeing, and leadership practices. Creating a culture of collaboration, celebration and continuous improvement across the school, underpinned by high staff wellbeing.

The school strives to ensure student and community voice is always considered. Student Parliament allows school leaders to work democratically and to participate in school decision making. The P&C is the voice for the community and provides the opportunity for parents, carers and community members to be position holders and support the school with key initiatives. Consultation for this plan included student voice, parent and carer consultation, Tell Them From Me survey, Kooroora Committee and Mankillikan AECG participation. Students, parents and carers are key collaborators in creating ways for students to excel and flourish.
